Work Already Underway On “Star Wars: Episode VIII” and “IX?”

With it being confirmed that Michael Arndt is currently working on the screenplay for 2015’s Star Wars: Episode VII, news is now coming out about Episode VIII and IX.

Deadline is reporting that Disney and Lucasfilm have approached Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg to pen the script for the two films to follow Episode VII. Apparently, George Lucas has already penciled out the stories for the next two installments and the scripts are to follow Lucas’ vision.

Kasdan is no stranger to the Star Wars franchise, having worked on the scripts for both The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, not to mention Raiders of the Lost Ark. As for Kinberg, he’s best known for his work on X-Men: First Class, Sherlock Holmes and the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Initial word was that Disney is eyeing a 2015 release for Star Wars: Episode VII, with a film to follow every three years.
