Top 5: Shonen Manga Antagonists That Deserve Their Own Spinoffs

Recent anime, and some manga series, have shown that spinoffs of fans favorite series can sometimes be just as enjoyable and entertaining as the originating series.

On that note, I think it would be interesting if animators and story creators pursued these five characters as potential new stars of their own spinoff series.

1. Aizen (Bleach)

Probably the character that would easily top most people’s list for their favorite or most memorable antagonist.

In Bleach, Aizen has been a major key player in the entire workings of most of the series. Perhaps it wouldn’t be quite a stretch to even say that he is the second most recognizable antagonist in the whole series, and even in the manga-running Weekly Shonen Jump in the past 10 years.

Aizen would be an interesting character to have his own series. What has been going on behind the scenes with him and what other characters has he played a vital role for from the moment before they were even born? Better yet, are there any other characters that we’d love to see have the tables turned on them time and time again all for the sake of his own entertainment and enjoyment?

And what type of spinoff could he be in: a sort of serious origin story of sorts or maybe even a goofy comedy action series?

Regardless of where he would end up, it would be wholly and utterly enjoyable.

2. Orochimaru (Naruto)

Lord Orochimaru has technically already received his spinoff. If people watched Naruto SD, then they know full well just what types of fun and joy Lord Orochimaru can bring to the table.

Orochimaru in canon is an interesting and at times dark kind of character who had questionable morals for his endeavor. Not to spoil much, but he was basically the major antagonist to know a character in a gray area. For a spinoff, keeping him on the typical comedic antagonist villain route would be best as he and his sidekick Kabuto are a hilariously close and perfect duo. Seeing his silly schemes all fail due to various reasons never gets old and he is just perfect for it.

3. Jellal (Fairy Tail)

From Fairy Tail, the main antagonist for a large portion of the series, Jellal would make an interesting character to explore and see in a more in-depth and focused manner.

What makes him tick, and what are his struggles? What has he gone through since leaving the Tower of Heaven and then returning to it later in life? Or even better, what type of personality does he have beyond the wholly serious demeanor he portrays?

It would be a fun experience to actually see that explored within him.

4.  Byakuran (Katekyo Hitman Reborn)

Byakuran has huge potential. Traveling to different dimensions (or timelines), a spinoff could easily highlight how he has struggled with seeing his many attempts to attain the Ultimate Power, and how he was alone for much of the duration.

Although, I would also like to see him in an comedy spinoff type setting. He was the type of guy that would just lead to really hilarious moments just from always being way too carefree, lighthearted, and kind of air-headed. There are a wide assortment of situations that he could be in that would be perfectly suited for him. I would definitely would have him in a gag comedy series.

5.  Maximillion Pegasus (Yu-Gi-Oh!)

It’s most likely been years since most people have even seen or read Yu-Gi-Oh!, however, Pegasus’s legacy still lives on today, with new cosplays and even a continuous flow of fanarts and fics. That being said, for a retro and classic choice to receive such spinoff treatment, I believe Pegasus would bring much to the table.

Like Byakuran and even Orochimaru above, he would surely do well in a gag comedy type spinoff with some moments of a serious plot thrown into the mix. His personality and how endearing it was initially, and then his change into a more antagonistic dark type character, would work well in the genre.

Imagine having him in these two personalities interchanging through various situations. Then add into the mix some battling with Seto Kaiba, a chance encounter with Mokuba, Byakura, and Yugi, then we would have a rather enjoyable anime.
