The Wii Mini Is Real (And A Canada-Exclusive)

It seems like an odd time to announce it, but Nintendo has officially announced the Wii Mini, a smaller, stripped-down variant of their successful Wii console. Available only at Canadian retailers this holiday season, the Wii Mini will be priced at $99.99.

The Wii Mini comes in a black and red color with a Wii Remote and Nunchuck. The new Wii Mini will only be able to play Wii games, opting to exclude online support or backwards compatibility with GameCube games. It will be available in only the red and black style to start.

It isn’t yet clear if Nintendo has any plans to bring the Wii Mini to any other territories at this point, but it seems likely that if the Wii Mini has a strong holiday season, other countries will receive the new redesign.

The Wii Mini hits Canadian retailers on December 7th, 2012.
