The Weekly Pull List: 10/10/12

by

Hello, and welcome to the latest edition of the Weekly Pull List!

Every week I team up with fellow comics contributors Chris (who is sporting the lovely new name, lokiallthefucksigive) and Ryley (ryley-stbatman) as we go through the week’s releases and spotlight our five most anticipated comics from our Pull Lists.

It is another big week in comics, as the fallout from “Avengers Vs. X-Men” begins in AvX: Consequences! We also have the continuation of the “Rise of the Third Army” in Green Lantern Corps, and the return of the Joker, as “Death of the Family” unfolds in Batman

So what made our picks this week? Read on to find out!

CHRIS’S PICKS

AVX: CONSEQUENCES #1

The war is over, and now it’s time to pick up the pieces. The Avengers, X-Men, and everyone else that was caught in the conflict must live with their actions, and none moreso than Cyclops—what will happen to the villain of the piece now that he has lost his Phoenix powers?

BATMAN #13

Guess who’s back, with a smile on his face? If you said The Joker, why are you still standing here reading this? RUN. The Man Who Laughs has returned to Gotham City, and the Bat Family will never be the same, as “Death of the Family” begins!

PHANTOM STRANGER #1

Cursed to betray all those he works with, the Phantom Stranger wanders the DC Universe in search of redemption, and that leads him to cross paths with Trigon, and possibly a certain black-clad daughter of his too? And in the shadows, Pandora begins to make her move as the Trinity War draws ever closer…

SCARLET SPIDER #10

Carnage has escaped into the Microverse, taking reporter Katy Kiernan and Dr. Ketola with him. Before Agent Venom and the Scarlet Spider can head after them, they have an obstacle to overcome first—each other! It’s time for the good ol’ fashioned misunderstood superhero conflict before the inevitable team-up as “Minimum Carnage” continues.

UNCANNY AVENGERS #1

It’s time for something new. When Captain America puts out the call, Avengers and X-Men alike will answer, and a new team will form that is the epitome of both sides. In the aftermath of Avengers Vs. X-Men, it’s time to show a united front, and just in time too, as the Red Skull returns to menace the modern day Marvel Universe!

RYLEY’S PICKS

BATMAN #13

I think it’s impossible NOT to be super excited about this issue. Not only has Scott Snyder’s Batman been amazing in its first year, but issue #13 starts off the next major storyline, “Death of the Family”, which features the gruesome return of the Joker to DC Comics. It’s going to be a hell of a ride.

FANTASTIC FOUR #611

The end of an era. Jonathan Hickman delivers his final F4 issue this week (though he does have one more issue of FF left) and it’s sure to send us off to Marvel NOW! with a bang as Doom makes his return. I do have to chuckle at the fact that F4 had a “Final Issue” banner across the top of the issue about two years ago, though.

PHANTOM STRANGER #1

Last month’s #0 issue of Phantom Stranger intrigued me quite a bit, so I’m totally on board to keep reading. Apparently, this title’s going to show us tons of secrets about the DCnU and lots of characters are going to appear here who have been gone since the relaunch, including the Teen Titan Raven.

SECRET AVENGERS #32

The current arc comes to an end with this issue, and it promises to bring dire consequences for the team. Seeing as the next arc on the title will be the final for Remender, I’m pretty sure the outcome of this issue is going to be rather important, so I’m excited to see how that plays out. And who’s going to bite the bullet? I’ll put my money on Valkyrie. Not because I want to see her die, but because I know Remender’s a bit of a heartbreaker and her death would just ruin Flash Thompson.

UNCANNY AVENGERS #1

Marvel NOW! starts here! One of my favorite writers and one of my favorite artists team up for a book starring some of the greatest characters from both the Avengers and X-Men sides of the Marvel Universe, and they’re about to go head to head with the Red Skull. On top of that, Remender has named it as the spiritual successor to his Uncanny X-Force series, which has been my favorite book at Marvel since it launched. I’m ridiculously excited for this one.

RYLEY IS ALSO PICKING UP…

- CAPTAIN AMERICA #18

- DEMON KNIGHTS #13

- FRANKENSTEIN: AGENT OF S.H.A.D.E. #13

- INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #526

- WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #18

SAM’S PICKS

BATMAN #13

Surely I don’t have to sell this issue at all? Snyder’s Batman has been excellent from the start, and things look set to continue to shock as the Joker returns to Gotham! Last seen over in Detective Comics getting a, erm, facelift, the Clown Prince of Crime is set to return to Bruce’s life—and that isn’t good for anyone in the Batman family…

FRANKENSTEIN: AGENT OF S.H.A.D.E. #13

The start of a three issue tie-in with “Rotworld”, this issue pits Frankenstein against the forces of the Rot, as he battles the Rot invasion. Considering the last run-in Frank had with the Rotlings, this looks set to be another great little issue, full of the insanity which only Frankenstein can provide.

GREEN LANTERN CORPS #13

“Rise of the Third Army” continues here! The story begins for Lanterns John Stewart and Guy Gardner, as John discovers the fate of Hal and Sinestro, and the existence of the new Green Lantern from Earth, Simon Baz—whilst things begin to go very wrong for Guy…

TRANSFORMERS: REGENERATION ONE #84

Regeneration One has been a great read so far, bringing back the Marvel US continuity of Transformers, 20 years on. And boy, have things changed in 20 years, with Megatron having enslaved Earth in the absence of Optimus Prime and the Autobots, and essentially lobotomising his Decepticon followers into following him.

But just what is up with Starscream? Surely not?

UNCANNY AVENGERS #1

Avengers Vs. X-Men is over. And from the ashes, rise—the Uncanny Avengers! In the aftermath of recent events, Captain America has realised Cyclops was right—the Avengers haven’t done all they can to help the X-Men and mutants. As such, he launches a new initiative to preserve Xavier’s dream, seeing the two teams united at last.

A new era begins, as does Marvel NOW!

SAM IS ALSO PICKING UP…

- 2000 AD PROG 1804

- CAPTAIN AMERICA #18

- FANTASTIC FOUR #611

- WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #18
