“One Piece” Goes On Hiatus

The editorial department of Weekly Shonen Jump has announced that due to a sudden illness suffered by author Eiichiro Oda, One Piece will go on an unspecified hiatus.

While it is unclear how long the hiatus will last — either just one week or more — more details are expected to be known in the magazine’s March 25 issue. It is certain, though, that the manga’s current chapter will not make the March 18 issue.

For a weekly series that has been around for over 10 years and has published over 700 chapters, it comes as no surprise that the workload has started to take its toll on the author’s health.

Update: One Piece is expected to return in the March 25 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump.
