Anime Review: Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou – 2

There are more girls involved than I thought. They are the bane to these high school boys’ perfect lives.

No matter what the first sentence to this review was going to be, it was going to be related to this episode being funny. I don’t think I have any other way to put it. This series is pure epic win. Watching this on a weekly basis is the new lazy way to form abs. I’ll take any recoil damage if it means sitting through the best twenty-five minutes of the day and soaking in this boyish humor. And it’s not like the skits are completely random. There is no shame is making each skit into its own series. Oh, the return of the Literature Girl!

What’s wonderful is that this series does not strictly follow the trio of Tadakuni, Hidenori and Yoshitake. Although those three provide the best source of stories and humor, the inclusion of their school buddies and their siblings raise the bar. Remember Tadakuni’s sister? I have a feeling she’s going to get more and more involved and not simply for all the underwear thieving Tadakuni and bros do. And hell, even Tadakuni plays along with the no-name game by directly referring to her as imouto. In addition, Motoharu (Namikawa Daisuke) and Karasawa (Ono Yuuki) getting increasingly active in the skits is a boost to all the joy. If not the scary cap story, then try the riverside childhood memories. Or any other big misunderstandings like the girl in the mirror. No, not Nago (Minagawa Junko).

This homage and parody to all of Sunrise and Square-Enix’s works has to be the biggest surprise of the season. I had my fair share of watching most of the winter premieres but this one easily trumps them all. Take it from just one guy but I highly recommend this while it’s still hot and trending. I can’t wait to see what this band of idiots will do at the beach…

GO Rating: 4.5/5

This could be a weekly thing too: post an image of the Literature Girl at the end of the review.
